Back in January, we asked residents and visitors at each of our sites to vote for their favourite charitable organisation to receive the largest share of a £2,000 fund by placing tokens in donation boxes in our Visitors Centres over the course of three months.
Now that Legal & General Homes’ Visitors Centres are open again, those tokens have been counted and the results revealed.
Buckler’s Park
The recipient of the £1,000 cheque at Buckler’s Park in Crowthorne was Easthampstead Park Community School Friends Association. The donation will enable the group to buy new learning supplies and equipment for the pupils. Absolutely Leisure – a charity and leisure centre that works to provide free experiences and access to its centres for families with children or young adults with additional needs – received the second most votes and was awarded £600. Crowthorne Village Pre School received the third prize of £400.
Cross Trees Park
The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust, which is restoring the 72-mile canal through Wiltshire, Swindon and Oxfordshire into a bio-diverse blue and green public corridor, received the most votes from visitors to Cross Trees Park in Shrivenham. The team said the £1,000 donation will be put towards continuing to improve public access to the canal at Shrivenham at a time when spaces for exercise and enjoying nature are vital for our physical and mental health. St John Ambulance, which provides first aid services, received £600 from the fund. Based in a refurbished theatre, The Pump House Project aims to create a versatile and vibrant, multi-use activity centre for its local area, and was awarded £400.
Finchwood Park
Bucket List Wishes received a £1,000 cheque at Finchwood Park in Finchampstead. The charity was launched in 2013 and works to grant the final wishes of terminally ill people. The grant funding will support its team which is made up entirely of volunteers. Sebastian’s Action Trust – a charity that provides support to families of children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions – received £600. Berkshire Lowland Search & Rescue, which works in partnership with Thames Valley Police to locate and rescue high risk missing persons such as children and those living with dementia, received £400.
